New Years Reflection
Stone City Strength & Wellness has been growing over the last 3 years and we can thank our wonderful members and dedicated coaches for that. We like to believe that we have been able to help many people not only get more fit but also build confidence, conquer pain, challenge themselves in ways they never thought possible and even build a social network with folks that perhaps they would have never had the opportunity to meet outside of these concrete walls! To us the gym is not just about barbells and weights but rather it’s a way of growing as people, sharing ideas/beliefs and coming together as a community in the pursuit of something tangible, a healthier more energetic and vibrant life.
However, with small successes still come large obstacles to overcome moving forward. The most common comment we hear from members once they work up the courage to step through our doors is that they were incredibly nervous about trying a class (at any gym in town) or perhaps they didn’t feel fit enough to be able to participate in group fitness. This is a common and incredibly disappointing narrative that is fuelled by an industry that makes fitness seem attainable only to those willing to punish their bodies, eat like prisoners and change into a person that doesn’t resemble who they currently are all of which couldn’t be further from the truth. While this gets perpetuated by social media accounts looking to gain traction and followers or infomercials for the craziest new fitness gadgets at Stone City Strength & Wellness we believe fitness is for all people regardless of starting place, age, ability, injury, emotional/mental health and worldview.
Our goal in 2020 is to find more efficient ways to break this narrative and communicate with our community about the services and help we can provide. We want everyone to know we are here to listen, guide and help in any way we can. Fitness and health are incredibly personal pursuits and everybody’s motives, goals, and ideal end states are different. The beauty of small group fitness lies in these differences. We have learned more from simply listening to our members stories, experiences, successes and fears than any course, class or certification has ever taught us and we’re positive you will too. So, whether you are a seasoned athlete or a complete beginner there is ALWAYS a place for you here at Stone City Strength & Wellness!
Lets make 2020 the best year yet!
See you in the gym,
Tomasz Deren & Sarah Kauffman
